October 2007: BEMDA launches new Website
After lots of hard work over the summer, BEMDA finally launches it's official web site at www.bemda.org Over the following year we hope to keep adding useful information to the site and hope that you can help us to do this by giving us feedback about what you want to see. August 2007: BEMDA is awarded Charity Status
BEMDA is pleased to announce that in August 2007 it was awarded charity status by the Charity Commission. This enables BEMDA to operate in Europe and Africa.
Having official charity status enables BEMDA to expand it's operations and to attract funding to help it to carry out it's work with Diabetes sufferers and their carers.
The charity number is: 1120589
BEMDA aims to:
- A. TO PROMOTE AND PROTECT THE PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH OF PEOPLE WITH DIABETES FROM BLACK AND ETHNIC MINORITY (BME) COMMUNITIES THROUGH THE PROVISION OF SUPPORT, EDUCATION, PRACTICAL ADVICE AND THROUGH UNDERTAKING RESEARCH IN THE SUBJECT OF DIABETES WITH THE DISSEMINATION OF ANY USEFUL RESULTS.
- B. TO PROVIDE OR ASSIST IN THE PROVISION OF FACILITIES IN THE INTERESTS OF SOCIAL WELFARE FOR RECREATION OR OTHER LEISURE TIME OCCUPATION OF INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE NEED OF SUCH FACILITIES BY REASON OF THEIR YOUTH, AGE, INFIRMITY OR DISABILITY, FINANCIAL HARDSHIP OR SOCIAL CIRCUMSTANCES WITH THE OBJECT OF IMPROVING THEIR CONDITIONS OF LIFE.
